USAF Helicopter Shot At Over Virginia

On Monday a US Air Force (USAF) helicopter was shot at over Virginia. The aircraft was then forced to make an emergency landing.

The incident, first reported by McClatchy, resulted in a crew member receiving a non-life-threatening injury.

The aircraft, a UH-1N Huey, has been identified as belonging to the 1st Helicopter Squadron. According to a statement, the aircraft was on a routine training flight.

In a statement, the FBI’s Washington Field Office stated:

[The FBI Has] Dispatched Special Agents and its Evidence Response Team to the Manassas Airport after receiving reports that a helicopter was shot at from the ground nearby.

In another statement Joint Base Andrews, where the aircraft is based stated:

The Office of Special Investigations is fully engaged with our FBI colleagues on this incident. OSI take threats to our Airmen and our resources very seriously. As this is an ongoing investigation, no further investigative details can be released at this time.
