A Virgin Atlantic flight from New York to London was forced to divert following an in flight fire last night.
The flight, VIR138, diverted to Boston following a portable battery charger catching fire. After landing at around 2050 local (0050Z), the device was examined by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit of the Massachusetts State Police which found it wedged between seat cushions.
Speaking to the media a police spokes man said, “”Preliminary investigation suggests it is a battery pack consistent in appearance with an external phone charger.”
The flight was carrying 217 passengers and crew who all made it off the Airbus A330 safely. One passenger had a smoke-related complaint however they refused treatment.
